These are ideas I’ve come up with over the years that I find myself coming back to again and again (just ask my students!):

  • Any book worth reading once is worth reading more than once.

  • It’s easier to keep up than it is to catch up.

  • Every now and then stop, turn, and look to see where you’ve been.

(I first discovered this while taking pictures on a vacation to the Pacific Northwest.  The view behind you is very often very different–and just as striking–from a different angle.  Personal retreats are my favorite way of putting this into practice on a daily basis.)

  • Good enough is never good enough.

(Well, usually–but it doesn’t sound as pithy if you say “usually.”)
